Self-Pity Will Kill Your Children’s Self-Esteem — Here’s How to Break the Cycle

Image
Self-Pity Will Kill Your Children’s Self-Esteem — Here’s How to Break the Cycle At Viby International School , we often remind parents of an uncomfortable truth: self-pity is one of the quickest ways to weaken your child’s self-esteem and confidence — yet many parents unknowingly pass this habit on. Do You Pity Yourself? Be honest — have you ever caught yourself saying things like: “ I lost a parent at a young age… ” “I work so hard but earn so little…” “People always take me for granted…” “I have no true friends…” “My health is always letting me down…” “No matter what I do, I’m still overweight…” These feelings are real. But here’s the danger: When you dwell on self-pity, you feel powerless. You start to believe life controls you — not the other way around. The Parenting Lesson We Can Learn From a Giraffe

Image
The Parenting Lesson We Can Learn From a Giraffe Recently, I watched a short film about giraffes that left a deep impression on me — and I want to share this lesson with every parent at Viby International School . The film showed a mother giraffe who had just given birth. The newborn calf looked so tiny, soft, and fragile — anyone would feel like holding and cuddling it. As I watched, the little giraffe slowly tried to stand up on its wobbly legs. It struggled, fell, got up again, and fell once more. Finally, when it almost managed to stand on its feet, something shocking happened — its mother kicked it hard , sending it tumbling back down! Again and again, the calf stood up and the mother kicked it back down. 2. Why Did the Mother Giraffe Do This? At first, it seemed cruel. But the film’s commentary revealed the deeper truth: Without these kicks, the baby giraffe would stand — but it wouldn’t become strong. In the wild, baby giraffes must quickly learn to stand, walk, an...

Give Your Children Life Skills: Beyond Books and Exams

Give Your Children Life Skills: Beyond Books and Exams One of the biggest ironies of modern parenting is this: every parent knows that degrees alone won’t secure a bright future , yet most parents focus only on academics. Of course, school subjects matter — science, history, maths, languages, computers — these build knowledge and open doors. But have you ever paused to ask yourself: What about the life skills my child needs to truly succeed?  Why Life Skills Matter for Children Life skills build confidence, resilience, and the power to navigate real life — not just exams. They help children handle stress, manage time, lead teams, solve problems, and grow into balanced, capable adults. Some examples of crucial life skills are:   Time management   High self-esteem  Self-motivation strategies  Positive beliefs and attitudes  Leadership skills  Healthy living habits These don’t come from textbooks alone — they are learned through exper...

Image
Do You Want Your Children to Be Like the Boatman or the Professor? As parents, we all want our children to do well in life — not just in the classroom, but outside it too. Many years ago, when we started our programmes for children, we focused on helping them build essential study skills such as: ✅ Speed reading ✅ Memory techniques ✅ Effective note-making ✅ Smart revision strategies ✅ Exam-taking skills These skills are undoubtedly important — they help children excel academically. But here’s the real question: Are study skills enough to succeed in life? We all know the answer: No. Academic excellence alone does not guarantee lifelong success or happiness. The real winners are those who master both study skills and life skills — children who are prepared not just for exams, but for life’s challenges too.  A Story to Remember: The Boatman and the Professor Let’s understand this through a story we often share with parents at Viby International School : O...
