Little Eyes Are Always Watching: Why Parenting Shapes Your Child’s Success

  1.  Little Eyes Are Always Watching: Why Parenting Shapes Your Child’s Success

Are you aware of how greatly parenting transforms you?
Becoming a parent brings responsibility, commitment, and an entirely new drive for growth. It shapes your beliefs, your habits, and even your charisma. But more importantly — it shapes your child’s future.

From the very moment they are born, your children’s little eyes watch you, every single day. Their young minds note down every word, action, and reaction. They are constantly learning — not by what you say, but by what you do.

2. How Children Develop: The 3 Stages Every Parent Should Know

Veteran sociologist Morris Massey described three powerful stages that shape who your child will become:

1️⃣ Age 0–7: The Imprinting Age

This is the most crucial phase. Children absorb information directly, without questioning it. Their early beliefs, fears, and sense of safety take root here.
Phobias and emotional patterns often form between ages 2–4, and these early impressions get reinforced as they grow. Parents’ actions during this phase have lifelong impact.

2️⃣ Age 8–14: The Modelling Age

At this age, your child looks beyond the family — they keenly observe friends, teachers, and heroes. They begin to imitate people they admire.
This is when they need guidance to choose the right role models — because who they admire, they often become.

3️⃣ Age 14–21: The Socialisation Age

Now your child develops deeper relationships outside the home and shapes personal values and beliefs. After 21, their core values rarely change — unless they experience a powerful emotional event or a life-changing learning experience.

 3. Who Shapes This Growth the Most? YOU Do.

Do you know who holds the greatest power in each phase? Parents!

If you want your child to be:

  1.  Responsible — Show responsibility in your daily life.
  2.  Committed — Stay committed to your promises.
  3.  Strong in values — Live by the values you wish to see in them.
  4.  Positive in beliefs — Nurture empowering beliefs yourself.

Children learn by watching. They mirror their parents’ actions, not just their words.

 4. Parenting: The Best Chance to Live a Life of Excellence

Becoming a parent makes you an everyday hero. It’s your best opportunity to live by the principles you wish to pass on.

In my own life as an educator and trainer, I’ve learned this the hard way: people, including children, don’t just listen to advice — they observe whether you live it. This is why I aim to practice what I preach.

At Viby International School, we believe parenting is not just about raising children — it’s about raising yourself to a higher standard.

When you do, you give your child the strongest foundation for confidence, resilience, and lifelong success.
